Artist's Comments

A preliminary sketch for a painting I hope to start relatively soon. I always adored sunsets..and most especially African sunsets...something so clean and pure in that golden light. Hopefully the final painting will turn out at least somewhat close to the image I see in my head

The sketch itself is about 10 inches by 5 inches.
tools: mechanical pencil on vellum

A special thanks goes out to my dear friend ~Faizah, without whom this sketch probably would not have come to fruition! Thank you for the inspiration :).

EDIT: Moved this to my formal gallery because of all the kind comments it has received. I often upload sketches to my scraps, not because I view them as 'scraps' or less worthwhile than the deviations in my formal gallery, but because sometimes I truly appreciate the attention my scraps get over my formal pieces. I appreciate the effort on the part of the people that watch me in taking a little more time to look at ALL my work. Also sometimes I post pieces in my scraps simply because it helps me stay confident about pieces that are still in the working stages, ie sketches that may turn into paintings etc. SO an extra special thank you to all those that go out of their way to look at my scraps and not only that but also take time to comment, encourage me and even go so far as to fave the pieces. YOU remind me how lucky I am to be part of this community on a daily basis.

This is such a beautiful picture. I just love how smooth everything is, from the feline's slick body to the shading which is just perfect. As someone else mentioned, you have such great contrasts in your black and white works. I have tried, but never really managed to achieve such effects.

The tree branch the feline is resting on is very neatly detailed. You take such care of all parts of your pictures, even those which are not subjects in themselves. As you do this, you create real things, even if they are just in paint. Looking at them, oe can see snapshots of things that have happened, and wish thet they were real.

I cannot wait until you have finished this picture. I am already sure of that it will be another masterpiece ^^*

I agree with feathers. It is amazing you you take such care, even in backgrounds. The veiw of the cat is awesome-how it actual turns it's spine a little bit, instead of just some flat, straight pose.

The detailing on the fur throughout the entire thing is visable, and that equally astounding. I can't even imagine how long this would have taken you. {:
