A preliminary sketch of an idea I had for a painting of an African Leopardess, likely to be sold in the Further Confusion Art show. The name was inspired by a show I recently caught on animal planet that chronicled the life of a leopardess trying to raise a family and survive in the Kalahari Desert. I chose the composition simply because it intrigued me, we shall see how well it works in painted format. I was inspired by a pose from a photo I found sometime ago., from where I don't even recall now..and also by trying various poses myself in the mirror. I am still debating how to go about doing the background, but I have a fairly good idea of what I want, nothing complex (shocking!), rather a simple gradiant/wash of softer colors..ie washed out purples/blues/pinks. However, I do welcome other suggestions and ideas!
Usually I am prone to post such sketches in my scraps, for the most part I will continue to do so...and hopefully you folks will be kind enough to drop in on my scraps as well! Details: Size: a little under 6"x10" tools: mechanical pencils on smooth vellum. Original rough concept sketched in open canvas 1.1 time taken: roughly a little over an hour EDIT: thank you for those that commented, the name of the show WAS Kalahari Supercat Thank you for looking! Very sweet. I love the curvature and shapes here. Shes got a beautiful body, and looks unafraid to show it. I have every reason to believe that she'll sell for a sweet price.
My suggestions on colors would be a very soft, but bright purple or orange for the background. If you did her fur so it shimmered softly, it would have a delightful dream-like effect. -- Feel free to visit my website: [link] Very pretty... Her shoulder looks a bit small though. I say this because she has a larger build, but her shoulder looks very small compaired to the rest of her body.
Other than that, Thats all I can see that wrong! She's very pretty, and its nice to see a woman/fur with boobs that don't defy gravity. -- The enemy of my enemy is my friend- SHIT! That means that the enemy I hate even more is my friend. Balaa, every time I see a new picture, I'm tempted to write one of those boring long comments again...
*deep breath* So I've convinced myself not to do that again. At least on this picture. Lovely colouring, the soft tones and the spots look so natural!! You have such a great knowledge of anatomy and I love how there's a white outline just inside the normal lineart (whether you let the paper show through or otherwise)... The way you've done the fur inside the ears is so pretty, too!! Awesome job, as always, Balaa. -- JC. <3 She's beautiful as she is already, I am completely floored at just how detailed a 'sketch' by you is. I strive to become able to have finished products which are as detailed and well shaded as this is.
On top of that, the anatomy is beautiful. Something about her pose and posture says mother to me, her wide hips probably have something to do about that... but there is both pride, wearyness, and concern in her features and stance. All the sort of emotions and weights you'd expect on the mind and body of a mother in a big dangerous world like the savanna. -- Tragic artist?.... only thing tragic about me is my art |
