Kalahari Princess by balaa Kalahari Princess by balaa
A preliminary sketch of an idea I had for a painting of an African Leopardess, likely to be sold in the Further Confusion Art show. The name was inspired by a show I recently caught on animal planet that chronicled the life of a leopardess trying to raise a family and survive in the Kalahari Desert. I chose the composition simply because it intrigued me, we shall see how well it works in painted format. I was inspired by a pose from a photo I found sometime ago., from where I don't even recall now..and also by trying various poses myself in the mirror. I am still debating how to go about doing the background, but I have a fairly good idea of what I want, nothing complex (shocking!), rather a simple gradiant/wash of softer colors..ie washed out purples/blues/pinks. However, I do welcome other suggestions and ideas!

Usually I am prone to post such sketches in my scraps, for the most part I will continue to do so...and hopefully you folks will be kind enough to drop in on my scraps as well!

Details:

Size: a little under 6"x10"
tools: mechanical pencils on smooth vellum. Original rough concept sketched in open canvas 1.1
time taken: roughly a little over an hour

EDIT: thank you for those that commented, the name of the show WAS Kalahari Supercat :D! I would have never remembered if not for your comments!

Thank you for looking!

This is, by far, my favorite piece of anthropomorphic art. Sexy without being lewd, beautiful while still being subtle. Love it.

She's gorgeous, you've captured the very essence of a leopard, in anthro form, not too thin, not too fat. Perfect musculature and a that pose, Princess? I'd swear fealty to her and no mistake. Well drawn, now all it needs to make it perfect is colour. Please consider colouring her, as I think she'd be 100% even more lovely than she already is.

I've been trying to blend the animal and human like this myself. Of course I'm nowhere near as good as you are at it... ^^;

I wish I could "sketch" like that. It IS a beautiful way to "sketch".

If you still want/need idea's for other backgrounds, her pose makes me think she's about to get into a bath or go swimming. Maybe a waterfall and/or a small pond/river; sunset in the distance in bright reds and golds...thats just the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this.

I used one photo to help me with certain elements..I saved it a while ago and I don't recall any longer where I got the photo..just flipped through lithiumpicnic's gallery and nope didn't see the photo..buuuttt I did catch one photo with a similar pose..If it had been his photo, I would have been more than happy to state that :). Unfortunately I surmise that pose is pretty popular, I have seen it in many a various photo/painting etc.

I know I already commented, but I have to compliment the shear beauty captured of the shape and figure. The sad eyes and shoulder blades are captured quite nicely.
