Even in Places of Light by balaa Even in Places of Light by balaa
...there is darkness.

'Ascending from the torpid nightmares of long ago, the slings of the past chime to break the serenity of this sacred place. A heavy umbra swings as an undulating pendulum of remnant despair.'

A newish pencil piece done this past month :). I actually had quite the battle with this one. I tend to flip my images once they are scanned, to weed out any asymmetry issues or imbalances in the composition. Well the negative space in this one certainly ate away at me. Ironically, that was how I pictured it in my mind but sometimes ideas fill in blanks as you work on this piece. Well in the end I realized I LIKED it this way. The imbalance of negative space creates a feeling of unease, tension and dissonance..which works well with my original intent for the piece. I want the viewer to feel the warmth of this place but also feel something is off..wrong..that being the weight of memories on the character's shoulders.

Well That's the idea anyway.

Wow, this is fantastic! When looking at the leopard lady, I can feel her sorrow and her burden. You did a great job with the shading, too. So jealous!
