Eclipsed From Within by balaa Eclipsed From Within by balaa
A little while ago my beloved  Lorien  was away for a week visiting with family. While I missed him terribly, the time alone swept away the years and took me back to where we first stood to face each other. Whether it was on a whim or not, one day as many years ago now, he sent me a note on Deviantart. In it, he introduced me to the most clandestine place in his heart and I fell in love with the story and all the souls that populated the world that he had been building. Little did I know then that our road ahead would be fraught with peril, potential dead ends and many a wrong turn. But through it all, we remained friends and maybe even because of the journey itself. But I still most fondly recall the unlikely beginning and while he was away, I took time to revisit the world that we, now together, seek to bring to life.

This painting is a very rough concept of a dream sequence idea I had while he was away in which the protagonist dreams of those things that he has lost from both within and without. My greatest failing in art being overthinking and overdetailing, I aimed to keep the painting loose leaving the sketch lines visible. The wondrous sky is borrowed from NASA. The concept doesn't get near to what I imagined but it is as good a starting point as any!

there are artists who want to be leveled. but there are those who look at the work and do not understand: this generally happens? your work is amazing, and I would have written in Russian is much more about it, if

It might not be what you had in mind but it is still a very lovely piece! I wish I had that kind of skill with backgrounds!

These days I'm way more interested in rough, incomplete, imperfect work than super-polished paintings.

I hear you! My biggest weakness is really just letting go and painting with abandon. Every now and then I reel it back and I find I often enjoy these exercises far more than the hyper detailed polished works. I learn a lot more and 'feel' more in tune with the original emotion that sparked the idea.
